Foot & Ankle Care

Personalized Podiatric Care

Our board-certified podiatric foot and ankle specialist and clinical care team provide personalized treatments for foot and ankle disorders, trauma, deformities, diseases, and conditions. From common fractures and sprains, problems with bones in your feet, nail disorders, or diabetic foot conditions, you'll find expert care at Van Wert Health. Relief starts with the right diagnosis and treatment plan.

At your first appointment, you'll meet with our physician and undergo a physical exam and a thorough medical history. If necessary, your doctor will order imaging, consisting of on-site x-rays or additional imaging such as an MRI or CT scan. A comprehensive physical exam coupled with imagery will allow our physician to assess your condition and develop a customized treatment plan.

Treatment for Podiatric Disorders

Our podiatric specialist starts with conservative, non-surgical treatments, including:

  • Braces (Properly positioning foot and ankle joints)
  • Custom-Molded Orthotics (Correcting irregularities in gait)
  • Injections (Delivering medication precisely to the area of interest)
  • Medications (Such as anti-inflammatories or steroids)
  • Physical Therapy (Exercising, training, or rehabilitating the foot or ankle)
  • Special Shoes (Preventing wounds, infection, or friction)
  • Walking Boot (Immobilizing the foot or ankle for healing)

If conservative treatment is not an option or has previously failed, we offer progressive surgical treatment options, including:

  • Bunionectomy (Removing a piece of bone and realigning the toe to correct deformities)
  • Foot and Ankle Reconstruction (Correcting complex deformities)
  • Open Reduction Internal Fixation of Fractures (ORIF) (Setting bones and facilitate healing)
  • Osteotomy (Surgically cutting the bone to alter it, such as shortening, or to correct bone alignment)
  • Plantar Fascia Release (Relieving tension and inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament)
  • Surgical Removal of Spurs (Getting rid of bony, abnormal prominence found on the inside of the foot near the big toe)
  • Tendon Repair (Surgically treating, repairing, or re-attaching a torn or damaged tendon)
